Ways the Denver Broncos together with their 'play-dough' QB can halt that Kansas City Chiefs' dominance.

Week six of the 2025 NFL season

Real-time updates includes live text for the weekend matchups on multiple platforms, beginning with Denver Broncos v New York Jets in London (from 14:00 BST). Also, audio coverage is available through designated networks for a separate game (from 21:00 BST).

It's week six of the football calendar , following last week's discussion about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles as possible championship contenders, each lost their perfect starts.

Striking during those contests was the amount of infractions each conceded. Philadelphia did so at crucial times meaning they essentially defeated themselves after leading by two touchdowns entering the final quarter against Denver, who play in London this weekend.

But it was good to observe that Denver's QB the rookie managed to have that deficit before lead three successful possessions on three possessions during the final period, to win the game by four points.

The Broncos boast the top defender in cornerback Pat Surtain II. They are number one in goal-line defense, while Philadelphia lead the league in red zone offence, and the Broncos prevailed in that contest.

They executed effective strategies in terms of simulated pressure. They weren't always sending extra pass rushers instead they could position two LBs in the 'A' gap then drop them out and dispatch a slot defender from the outside.

At the start of the season, it was noted on a program how Denver could be this season's surprise contenders. They ended the previous year strongly and did a good job of building upon that.

Could Denver be this season's underdog story?

Recently acquired tight end Evan Engram has excelled significantly while new RB JK Dobbins is a player they believe in. He now ranks 5th league-wide for rushing yards (over 400) as well as tied-fourth in rushing scores (four).

I love that head coach the Broncos' leader has "RUN IT!" prominently on his call sheet.

This demonstrates how the Broncos are a squad that wants to run first, because you can do a lot based on that approach. It slows opposing rushes while keeps you in positive situations.

This has helped QB Bo Nix, who entered the NFL as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, passing for 29 TDs – second only to a star QB in rookie records (31 in 2020).

Other elite QBs have the arm strength to pass anywhere, however they lack in the same way as Nix. He boasts exceptional arm talent, a unique trait, plus he is so athletic.

His strengths are his movement, the capacity to throw on the run, and finding varied release points to deliver the pass as he moves outside protection, the bootlegs. He is able to deliver that layered pass over the middle and past defenders.

As a rookie QB, aged 25, he displays a lot of poise in the pocket and is not really fazed by extra rushers. He aims to avoid being tackled whenever possible and is able pass under pressure. He possesses a high football IQ and is quick to decide.

If you constantly run the ball it consumes time and makes the defence to be on the field for longer, and if you have a mobile QB the defence must cover the field vertically side to side. This proves exhausting.

Nix has bitten back at Payton during games at times and I think Payton appreciates that attitude, seeing him as a fierce rival. I think it's exciting for the coach to coach a rookie QB who's similar to moldable clay. He can truly build something up the way he desires to shape him. I believe it's a unique opportunity for him.

Payton owns a championship and now surpassed a legend for career NFL wins (173, tying for 14th). He's seen everything. I think the achievements the Broncos are experiencing offensively is mostly due to his guidance, his schemes, his situational awareness – and the pairing with the QB helps shape him into who he is.

You wouldn't want a more qualified person guiding you, to help you during difficult moments and boost confidence.

I have faith in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. Yet are they good enough to go against a top squad at full strength? Since that was not championship-level play by the Eagles in their last game.

Right now, it's unlikely the Broncos are elite. They're working above average, which is a solid position to hold their division. All they need is to continue this trajectory.

They excel at embracing their strength, that is the ground game, and this is precisely what they should do versus the Jets at Tottenham. It's going to be the JK Dobbins show, in essence.

New York have allowed 140 rushing yards per game (sixth worst), five rushing touchdowns so far (10th worst), and they're the sole squad without a win any game.

Since the NFL began tracking takeaways in 1933, this team are the inaugural squad to go without a single takeaway in five outings, this is surprising when you think that their new coach was previously a defensive coach at the Detroit Lions.

The Chiefs' QB stated the Chiefs are off to a poor start following a recent loss by the Jaguars.

Following the upcoming matchup, the Broncos have a manageable slate up to their bye (in week 12) - the Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and the Raiders prior to the Chiefs.

In their division, Kansas City are 2-3 and the Broncos are even with the Los Angeles Chargers at 3-2 so they could make a run for the top of the West.

It depends on which form Kansas City shows up they face since Denver {beat|def
