The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
