The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, provided by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the character of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
