The original creators of the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has claimed that parent company Unilever blocked the introduction of a new Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, who co-founded the business with his partner, disclosed that he plans to independently develop this new flavor within an individual collection showcasing causes the company was prevented from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Founders versus Parent Company

This latest announcement deepens the continuing disagreement between the world-famous dessert company with its corporate parent, the British consumer goods corporation which acquired the ice cream brand since 2000.

Both founders maintain how Unilever and its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's from "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Flavor as a Symbol for Support

The entrepreneur stated via social media how he's developing a new watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, asking for public suggestions for the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen declared in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace in Palestine and calls for repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem of solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its coloration, which mirror the colors in the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Previous Social Engagement and Current Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell its products in territories occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever transferring their Israel business over to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series will be developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist ice cream brand that was first established several years back for endorsing former US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts plus Future Plans

Mr. Cohen revealed that he will develop additional ice cream flavors focusing on concerns which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly by Unilever.

The announcement follows co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's recently, after many years with the organization, citing worries that its independence was compromised following corporate moves to curb its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen commented how "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."

“My conscience compels me to continue to work within the organization to fight for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can actualise its ethical purpose, the principles which established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he explained to media outlets.
