"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I did around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," said Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."
Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – about 16% of the entire UK sector.

"The idea that money from performances in large arenas helps the independent spots, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

In the past week, the trust revealed it had protected two small stages in the South East, by bringing them into local control.
One venue in the city and The Croft in that location were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is backed by a national body and music fans who acquire "stakes" in the properties.
