Beyond Just Recognition: The Role of Future Class Future Class was not just a nod to exceptional figures in the video game industry. It functioned as a hub for professional connections and career advancement. While some alumni shared appreciation for participating in the program, others felt that it was insufficient for its members. Feedback focused on various aspects of the program, including the insufficient support to attend the event to not paying for advising new members. Recent Controversy and Initiative Suspension The program was suspended in the current year, when The Game Awards omitted the award in its programming. This omission came after a previous year dispute where some those in the program supported a letter calling on the show to leverage its influence to express solidarity with a humanitarian situation. "You gave us the role of ambassadors of a improved world ā as such, our duty towards you and all the players globally drives us to speak up," the letter said. It also argued that the games community frequently marginalized Black and brown people, and urged creators in the industry to make changes. Formal Confirmation and Website Updates While this is the second year that TGA has not nominated a Future Class cohort, event organizers had not formally declared its cancellation previously. The absence has been remarked upon, partly, due to the apparent removal of any trace of the program on the the eventās online portal. The eventās founder and producer did not immediately respond to a media inquiry. TGA 2025 are set for December 11.
