Germany's Cultural Affairs Minister the government representative labeled the finding of the pair of works a "great moment for the world of music". They originally drew interest of a musical scholar in 1992 when he was documenting the composer's papers at the Royal Library of Belgium. The organ pieces - the D minor Chaconne and Chaconne in G minor - were dating unknown and unsigned. The researcher spent the following three decades working to confirm the authorship of the pieces. Memorable Concert They were performed at the St Thomas Church in the German city, where Bach is interred and where he served as a music director for twenty-seven years. The compositions were executed by Dutch musician the renowned organist, who said he was privileged to be able to perform them for the initial performance in three hundred twenty years. He said the compositions were "of a very high quality" and would be "a valuable resource for contemporary organ players, as they are also well-suited for reduced-scale organs". Historical Significance They are thought to have been created during Bach's formative years, when he was serving as an organ instructor in the community of the Thuringian town in Thuringia. Mr Wollny, who is now the director of the Bach Archive in Leipzig, said they displayed several qualities distinctive to the artist. "In terms of style, the compositions also feature aspects that can be identified in Bach's compositions from that time, but not in those of different artists," he said. They are believed to have been written down in 1705 by Bach's apprentice, the historical figure. At a unveiling of the works, Mr Wollny said he was "almost completely confident that the composer had created the two compositions" and they have now been included into the authoritative listing of his compositions.
