King Desires the Duke to Lose Naval Position, Minister Says

Royal Navy ceremony

The Ministry of Defence is working to remove the Duke's final honorary title following the direction of the King, the official has announced.

John Healey said the Monarch had "made clear this is his preference".

Andrew, who was lost his title as a prince on Thursday, retained his naval rank in the Royal Navy after surrendering his additional military roles in the previous year.

"This is a move that's right, the King has directed us to implement this measure and we are currently addressing this matter," the defense secretary stated to a Sunday news program.

Background Context

  • Prince Andrew once occupied various royal and defense positions
  • The Royal Navy typically confers titular appointments to royal household figures
  • Current circumstances have prompted review of these titles

Present Activities

The elimination mechanism for honorary military ranks requires several stages and should comply with standard procedures.
