Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the team knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This means them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Planners parties.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
